Volunteer at Music Therapy session for children with SEND (Oval venue)
About this Event
Are you upbeat, friendly and love a boogie? We are looking for individuals interested in bettering the lives of children and their families. Previous experience with SEND and autism is a bonus, but it is not a requiremen! Just someone who is happy to jump in a have a good time.
Because our sessions support children and young people with SEND, there are a few safeguarding steps to complete before you can attend your first session. Please do not attend a session without contacting us first, getting a ticket on eventbrite does not mean you can attend the session yet - we'll guide you through the process, see below!
What will you be doing?
In-Deep are looking for volunteers to support our music therapy sessions for children with SEND. The children who join our classes are anywhere from 3-25 years and will always be attending the sessions with their family. Participants are invited to join in group music-making – we can sing, play instruments or listen together and move to the beat.
- Welcoming families and helping create a friendly, inclusive atmosphere.
- Encouraging children to join in with singing, instrument playing, movement and creative activities.
- Assisting with setting up and packing away equipment.
- Supporting participants where appropriate under the guidance of the session leaders.
- Helping ensure sessions run smoothly while having plenty of fun along the way.
- Being upbeat and friendly and happy to jump in and have a good time to better the environment of the session.
Music Therapy
The classes are led by a Sessions are led by qualified and experienced HCPC music therapists, and supported by students from the Royal College of Music. There is significant evidence to show that music therapy can help children develop communication and language skills, as well as support their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
How to start volunteering with us?
Before you start, we'll help you with:
- Enhanced DBS Check
As you'll be volunteering with children, you'll need an Enhanced DBS check. If you don't already have one, we'll support you through the application process. - References
We'll ask you to provide details for a referee who can tell us a little about you. We'll contact them directly as part of our volunteer onboarding. - Volunteer Induction & Training
Before your first session, you'll receive a short induction so you feel confident in your role and understand how our sessions run.

When and where?
We run two sessions every month, one in Pimlico and one in Oval. You can sign up to volunteer in one of them, or both. You can sign up for a one-time volunteer, monthly, or another arrangement.
