Volunteer & Education OpportunityMolly Hollar Wildscape June 6 First Saturday
8:00am – 11:00am - NEW SUMMER HOURS
We'll be planting, transplanting, seed collecting, and, of course, weeding.
Inland seaoats and sedges will be transplanted from the spot by Precious's bench to the memorial stone benches and to underneath the trees down from the bioswale. The seed collecting will be from Cherokee sedges everywhere.
Then at 10:30, Morgan Chivers and Kayli Nauls will talk about the "Maverick Prairies" initiative at UTA which maintains four (and counting!) native polyculture habitats across campus. Over the past few years, a robust dataset of the planted landscaping on UTA's campus has been built with the goal of convincing university administration to move away from boring invasive species and embrace an implemented celebration of our unique ecosystem here at the intersection of the CrossTimbers and Blackland Prairies.
Morgan is the UTA Maker Literacies Librarian for Experiential Learning. Kayli is an undergraduate student at UTA in her second year of the Sustainable Urban Design program.
All are welcome, no experience necessary. Members of ecology and garden groups can receive credit hours.
