About this Event
Voices of the Community is honored to welcome Dr. Leona Tate, a living civil rights icon and one of the historic New Orleans Four.
At just six years old, Dr. Tate helped change the course of American history. On November 14, 1960, she walked into a school that did not want her there, escorted by U.S. marshals and surrounded by anger no child should ever face. Her courage helped open the doors of education for generations that followed.
Today, Dr. Tate continues that work by teaching truth, preserving history, and building spaces where communities can learn, heal, and grow together.
This is more than a speaking event.
This is a moment.
A moment to hear history from someone who lived it.
A moment to reflect on how far we have come.
A moment to ask what our responsibility is now.
Students, families, educators, leaders, and community members are all invited to be part of this powerful evening of truth, courage, and connection.
Come be in the room.
Come listen.
Come reflect.
Come leave inspired.
