Celebrate Halloween with life coach and speaker Cathy Butler, costume contest, karaoke, open mic, prizes, and pizza from Pizza Patron!
About this Event

We're hosting a special Halloween Fright Mic at Communities for Recovery!

The night begins with a conversation with Cathy Butler, a motivational speaker, life coach, and upcoming author.

Cathy has worked at multiple treatment centers in the Austin area and serves on the board of the 24 Hour Foundation. After a difficult journey finding recovery, she emphasizes the importance of remaining teachable every day in order to find your authentic self. Her favorite moments in recovery have been with her kids, enjoying nature, and watching her grandchildren grow up. Feeling grateful for the new life she has an opportunity to live, her purpose is now to help other addicts and alcoholics find true happiness and freedom from addiction.

For the first 45 minutes of the event, Cathy will sit down with our MC to share her story and take questions from the audience.

We'll break for an intermission to serve non-alcoholic drinks and free pizza courtesy of Pizza Patron, and gather back in the main room after 10-15 minutes for a costume contest. Show up looking your spookiest and sign up for the contest when you arrive to win a prize! At check in, we'll ask everyone to guess the number of candy corn in a jar to win a prize, and we'll announce the winner during the intermission.

The second half is for karaoke and an open mic. Anyone can sign up to sing or share poetry, music, storytelling, spoken word, whatever inspires you. This is a space to express yourself, celebrate creativity and recovery, and have a fun Halloween. Karaoke singers can sing one song per person. Everyone who signs up for the open mic gets 7 minutes. Sign up at the front desk when you arrive. We encourage everyone to sign up. All experience levels, all forms of expression.

We will have a special Halloween activity starting at 4:00 P.M. Communities for Recovery will provide plaster skulls, miniature pumpkins, and the art supplies to decorate them. Bring your kids and yourself for a fun opportunity to be creative and enjoy the holiday with others in recovery. This activity will take place in the Coral Room and will be open throughout the event.
