Come Hear the Voices!

Woodlawn Cemetery is excited to announce that their much-loved annual fundraiser, "Voices of Our past" will return as a one-day event on Saturday October 8, 2022.

In changing the name to "OUR Past", we hope to encourage the audience to recognize the personal connection each of them has to each of the "Voices" who were also proud citizens of Edwardsville.

The individuals who were chosen to be heard this year represent an important cross-section of men and women who are buried or memorialized within the grounds at Woodlawn.

They were also the backbone of our growing and prospering community and....each has a story to tell.

Among the Voices on this year's tour are a physician who learned his craft on the battlefields of the American Civil War, Edwarsville's first Telegraph Operator, a tea-totaling Librarian and a Prize-Winning Female Equestrian who many believed died of a broken heart.

The real-life actors, dressed in period costumes, will share biographial material about the characters they are portraying, as well as illustrate historical links to contemporary Edwardsville.

Woodlawn has partnered with Alumni Players! to create and revitalize this important community event.

Alumni Players! is a not-for-profit organization established by a small group of Edwardsville High School graduates from the 1970's, who are grateful for the opportunities that this community gave them to experience so many aspects of the performing and creative arts.

Their purpose is to partner with the community groups to create memorable fund-raising events that "leave the audience waiting for more":

• more opportunities to learn about themselves
• more opportunities to support the cause
• more opportunities to build community

There will be 3 guided walking tours: 11:00AM, 1:00PM, & 3:00PM.

Each walking tour will last approximately 75 minutes in length.

A limited-seating CandleLight Performance will be given in The Chapel at Woodlawn at 7:00PM.

Tickets are $15 each and should be purchased in advance directly from the Woodlawn Cemetery Website.

Vehicles may not enter the cemetery grounds on the day of the event for safety reasons. Ample on street parking is available.
