About this Event
A new interactive exhibition and innovative creative-writing project, Voices from the Wall, explores shared histories and experiences between Britain and Romania, which began nearly two millennia ago with the building of Hadrian’s Wall and continues today.
In this relaxed two-hour workshop, led by writer and producer of our new exhibition ‘Voices from the Wall’, Bronwen Riley, we will look at how we can explore contemporary lives in parallel with those of the diverse people who lived and worked in Roman Britain. We will excavate issues of language, memory, landscape and identity, using historic sites and artefacts from the Roman period, as well as the antiquarian travel books on display at the library as part of the exhibition, as inspiration for our own creative writing. Whether you are interested in writing history, historical fiction, creative non-fiction or poetry, this workshop will help you to look at how the material evidence of the past can be used to inform the present, and inspire your writing.
