About this event
Voices For Home is our annual Fair Housing educational event, designed to deepen understanding of equity, advocacy, and access to home-ownership through lived experience and dialogue.
The evening begins with a guided tour of the National Public Housing Museum, including immersive visits to three recreated historic apartments within the Jane Addams Homes. These spaces tell the stories of families who lived in public housing between 1938 and 1975, offering a personal lens into national housing policy and its long-term impact.
Exhibit Highlights Include:
• The Turovitz Family Apartment (1938): Exploring the origins of public housing
• “What Happened Next?” (1950s): Examining redlining, racial covenants, and housing segregation
• The Hatch Family Apartment (1960s): Connecting public housing to the Civil Rights Movement and environmental justice
Following the tour, guests will participate in a panel discussion featuring voices committed to advancing fair housing, equity, and access to opportunity.
