About this Event

About the Event:

The South Asian Festival 2026 is a celebration of the rich intellectual, literary and cultural heritage of South Asia. Organised by the Voice of South Asian Art & Literature (VSAAL), the festival brings together distinguished writers, historians, journalists, poets, artists, musicians, academics and emerging voices to explore the ideas that have shaped our past and continue to influence our future.

اک طرزِ تغافل ہے، سو وہ ان کو مبارک

اک عرضِ تمنا ہے، سو ہم کرتے رہیں گے

For Faiz, aspiration (tamannā) is far more than a simple wish. It is a living consciousness, an enduring search for meaning, and a metaphor for human evolution. In his poetry, this gentle yet profound word transcends sentiment and becomes an intellectual and moral force—one that rekindles hope and reminds us that humanity is always capable of becoming something greater.

This year’s festival pays tribute to one of humanity’s greatest poets, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, whose work transformed the language of love, resistance, freedom and human dignity into a timeless voice of hope. Faiz created a Progressive Foundation for next generation.
Programme offers a unique blend of keynote lectures, thought-provoking panel discussions, poetry recitals, book launches, musical performances, cultural presentations and audience conversations. Drawing inspiration from the shared traditions of South Asia, the festival creates a platform where literature meets history, art engages with society, and diverse perspectives encourage meaningful dialogue.

Among the highlights are discussions on the Indus Valley Civilisation, contemporary social and cultural issues, the role of women in today’s world, the relationship between history and identity, and the enduring relevance of literature in shaping democratic and progressive societies. Alongside these conversations, audiences will enjoy multilingual poetry, tributes to legendary artists, traditional and contemporary music, dance performances, and the presentation of the prestigious Faiz & Edhi Awards, recognising outstanding contributions to culture, literature and humanity.

More than a cultural event, the South Asian Festival is a space for reflection, learning and exchange. It seeks to inspire curiosity, celebrate creativity, strengthen connections across communities, and encourage critical thinking through the power of ideas and artistic expression.

We warmly welcome all participants, speakers, performers and guests, and hope that this festival provides an enriching experience that celebrates the diversity, resilience and shared cultural legacy of South Asia.
