STRANGER CAT PHILOSOPHY & SHORT BIO:
It is Stranger Cat’s deep belief that everyone has a voice, therefore everyone is singer, and that when we, as a society forget to sing together, and don’t allow space for it, things fall apart. This is the 1st generation in history that people simply don’t sing togehter. As a yoga teacher and wellness instructor, and in her own healing from a serious injury, Cat has also experienced Voice as a Practice — voice as THE only practice, when body is not available to move in. There she learned 1st hand how to heal oneself with these simple tools.
The short bio is, Stranger Cat has toured around the world singing her own music, as well as with various music luminaries from Carnegie Hall, to Coachella, to Sydney Opera House and Saturday Night Live, and founded the Sirens of Brooklyn Woman’s Choir! She has done vocal coaching for over 15 years, and it is a true passion to aid people in knowing, everyone has a voice, so everyone is a singer!
Comforable in genres spanning pop, opera, jazz, experimental, and everything in between, Cat has also been studying mantra curiously for decades. She went on her 1st meditaiton retreat at age 21 and knew there was a deep connection between voice and spirit, especially when it was time for kirtan in the evenings!
She received a scholarship to study Opera at her alma mater Rutgers College, but quit the program, uninspired by her teachers rigidity to allowing her to explore her own sounds, and began writing her own songs, and a lifelong unfolding of finding her authentic voice.
Cat says: “coming from a family of teachers, I always had a natural spark for how to share knowledge. I never forgot that teacher from college, who would not let me explore my own sound and personal authenticiy, and wanted me to mimick one thing; I knew she was wrong, and that I wanted to make it different for my students. I vowed to help people find freedom through vocalizing, improve their voice and feel comfortable in it, while gaining true confidence. It is my goal to guide you to sound more like your one and only self. Your authentic self".
