About this Event
The Voce Books Club returns for a summer session in the Digbeth Community Garden where we’ll be diving into the rich depths of this, the first book from a brand-new independent publisher dedicated to the stories of the Mediterranean & the people & places surrounding it:
Brandy Sour by Constantia Soteriou
Translated from the Greek by Lina Protopapa
Published by Foundry Editions
Set in Cyprus, this novel looks at the island's turbulent twentieth century through the eyes of a variety of characters. A king in exile, a cleaning lady, a poet, a UN officer - to name just a few of the people Soteriou introduces us to – all are reluctant protagonists of History & with a specific point of view on it. What do these characters have in common? They are all occupants of the Ledra Palace Hotel which was built in the 1950s to bring modernity to Cyprus & symbolise the beginning of a new era.
Copies of ‘Brandy Sour’ can be purchased from Voce Books in advance of the event with a Voce Books Club discount of 10%.
Spaces are limited & offered on a first-come-first-served basis, so we kindly ask that you place a reservation for the book club here on our Eventbrite page.
