About This Event
Voice as Practice is a 90-minute guided vocal workshop focused on building a stronger, more reliable voice through intentional practice.
The session explores how breath supports pitch, phrasing, stamina, and dynamic control, and how reducing unnecessary tension can lead to greater power, range, and confidence in performance. Technique is addressed in an accessible way, grounded in real performance contexts rather than rigid rules.
The format blends guided exercises, discussion, and optional live examples in a calm, low-pressure environment. No one will be asked to sing unless they volunteer. Listening and observing are fully valid ways to participate.
This session sits somewhere between a talk, a workshop, and a shared listening practice.

About the Facilitator
Ben Dyleuth is a singer and educator who approaches voice as a practice shaped by breath, space, and presence. Trained in classical voice and choral conducting at St. Olaf College, his early ensemble work in Minneapolis shaped an approach grounded in phrasing, breath awareness, and collective listening.
Alongside a contemporary performance practice spanning solo and experimental work, he has performed at festivals, venues, and gallery settings, and has led vocal workshops internationally, including at the Taitung Fringe Festival in Taiwan. His work has also been presented through platforms such as Sofar Sounds, and he has received artist support through Shunpike’s Artists of Color Expo & Symposium (ACES) hosted at KEXP.
Ben’s teaching emphasizes vocal wellness and sustainable technique, helping singers build power, range, and reliability without unnecessary strain.
