Room 4250 (Student Commons Lounge). Free and open to the public.Marcel Fable Price is a walking kaleidoscope of lived experience—a self-taught, multi-hyphenate creative whose work lives at the intersection of oratory brilliance and raw, resonant writing. Once the youngest, first person of color, and first without a college degree to serve as Poet Laureate of Grand Rapids, MI (2017–2020), Fable has since become a nationally touring storyteller. His words are both a mirror and a window—reflecting personal truths while inviting audiences to reimagine what healing and humanity look like.
Fable’s journey is as layered as his language. He is the 2016 Community Advocate Award recipient, a 2017 40 Under 40 honoree, the 2020 Black Bottom Community Builder Award winner, and the 2023 Imagination Award recipient from the West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology. His work amplifies what it means to survive and transform, what it means to bloom in soil not made to hold you.
Fable’s debut collection, New American Monarch, is available on Audible and wherever books are sold. His life is proof that transformation is possible. His art is what happens when it dares to speak.
