Visiting Author Panel | Indie Press
About this Event
Three fantastic authors Tim DeMarco (Release Me), Darci Schummer (The Ballad of Two Sisters), and Raki Kopernik (No One's Leaving) will be joining us at the bookstore on Sunday, August 9th at 6pm for an evening discussing their most recent titles and the process of bringing a novel into volition.
This event will feature Unsolicited Press. All authors are published with this prominent indie press. Founded in 2012, Unsolicited Press (living the dream in Portland, Oregon) focuses on the works of the unsung and underrepresented. As a woman-owned small publisher that doesn’t worry about profits as much as championing exceptional literature, they have had the privilege of partnering with authors skirting the fringes of the lit world. The vibe at Unsolicited Press is rebellious, relentless, and philanthropic. All of the net profit is funneled back into the business to maintain operations.

TIM DEMARCO
Tim DeMarco is a teacher, translator, writer, and wannabe musician. Release Me is his first novel. He currently lives at the Jersey Shore, where—despite having such a big mouth— he constantly bites off more than he can chew. Visit him at timdemarco.com
RELEASE ME
22-year-old Jacob Constantine has everything he needs—an Ivy League education, a wealthy family, and the lucrative offer to take over his father’s real estate empire. The only problem is he doesn’t know what he wants, other than his ex-girlfriend Deirdre back. When she attempts to rekindle their relationship one week before his departure to Germany—where he accepted a one-year job to put off the inevitable career with his father—the presence of the past begins to overshadow his temporary escape from the future.
With the help of a beer-guzzling, flatulent punk rocker named Stinki, and Julia, the beautiful and spirited intern at the American Studies department where he works, Jake tries to navigate the present tense in Germany. But as he speeds toward his unwanted future, no amount of sex, drugs, or punk rock can keep the dark secrets from the past from being stirred up in the wake of Deirdre’s reappearance.
Equally funny and foul, heartwarming and heartbreaking, "Release Me" is a coming-of-age story about a young man who understands that home is where the heart is, but is stuck pondering the question, “Where is my heart?”
DARCI SCHUMMER
Darci Schummer is the author of the forthcoming story collection Keystone Species, The Ballad of Two Sisters, Six Months in the Midwest, and The Book of Orion. THE BALLAD OF TWO SISTERS
At the center of The Ballad of Two Sisters are Stella and Helen, sisters who die on the same day. Struggling to overcome a tumultuous and abusive childhood, the sisters search for connection and certainty in an uncertain world. Intermingled with the stories of these women are those of Stella's husband Gerald, son Jesse, and The Mortician who prepares the women's bodies for burial. Though at times circuitous, the paths the sisters travel ultimately lead them back to each other, until finally, they can never be parted.

NO ONE'S LEAVING
A young woman travels through Europe in the late nineties after she learns of her ex girlfriend's suicide, whose ghost follows her around. She meets an array of people, including a tarot reader, a gay farmer, an expat trans woman, and a French lesbian with a dreamy pit bull. Discovering new love and friendship while remembering the struggles of her past relationship, the story weaves between the narrator's present- day adventures and coming-of-age love, sewn together by existential conversations with the ghost of her ex.
