For this week’s Visiting Artist’s Talk we welcome Jelena Sofronijevic.Jelena Sofronijevic is a producer, curator, writer, and researcher based in London. Their curatorial projects include the group exhibition ‘Invasion Ecology’ (2024) and the podcast EMPIRE LINES, which uncovers the unexpected flows of empires through art. They also produce HISTORICITY, a new series of audio walking tours exploring how cities got to be the way they are, recorded on location in London (2022) and Tokyo (2023). Their reviews and profiles have been published in print and online.
Jelena works at the intersections of cultural history, politics, and the arts, highlighting continuities over time, and seeks to make complex ideas accessible, not simple. Much of their research is focussed on pluralising representations of CESEE/diasporic communities and cultures, particularly from the Balkans and Yugoslavia. More widely, they seek to platform perspectives often marginalised or excluded from representation, especially in anti-colonial and environmental activism.
About the Visiting Artists Talks series:
The Visiting Artists' Talks (VAT) series welcomes artists every Monday afternoon during teaching weeks.
Each session brings an arts professional to talk with us (as a community) about what they do and why, and to chat with the student body honestly about their career journey and interests.
All of our talks are compulsory for our Fine Art students but open to anyone else who would like to join us.
The venue for this week’s talk is Lecture Theatre 2 (3.04) Clothworkers South Building.
