El Buque Escuela Cuauhtémoc, también conocido como el «Embajador y Caballero de los Mares», es el buque insignia de la Secretaría de Marina - Armada de México y la orgullosa embarcación a través de la cual nuestra nación lleva un mensaje de amistad y buena voluntad a los puertos y mares del mundo. Para los mexicanos que viven en el extranjero, representa también un reencuentro y un vínculo con su patria, sus raíces y su gente.

Construido en Bilbao, España, en 1982 por Astilleros y Talleres Celaya S.A., el buque fue diseñado con la misión de fomentar el espíritu marinero de los futuros oficiales de la Armada de México. Su tripulación ha jurado dar su máximo esfuerzo para hacer de esta embarcación una cuna digna y noble, donde continúe fortaleciéndose el espíritu de quienes navegan a bordo.

A lo largo de sus más de cuatro décadas de existencia, el Cuauhtémoc ha formado a generaciones de jóvenes cadetes de la Heroica Escuela Naval Militar. Ha navegado cientos de miles de millas náuticas, completando cuatro vueltas al mundo y surcando los mares, océanos, canales y estrechos más emblemáticos del planeta.

El esfuerzo, dedicación y gallardía de su tripulación le han valido a este majestuoso velero múltiples reconocimientos internacionales. Sin embargo, su mayor logro es ganarse el afecto y la admiración de todas las personas que visitan sus cubiertas.

Juntos, la tripulación y el buque son una representación viva del pueblo mexicano: cálido, hospitalario y generoso.

Overview

The Sailing Ship Cuauhtémoc, also known as the “Ambassador and Knight of the Seas,” is the flagship of the Mexican Navy and proud vessel through which our nation conveys a message of friendship and goodwill to ports and seas around the world. For Mexicans living abroad, it also represents a reunion and a connection with their homeland, their roots, and their people.

Built in Bilbao, Spain, in 1982 by Astilleros y Talleres Celaya S.A., the ship was designed to fulfill the mission of fostering the seafaring spirit of future Mexican Navy officers. Its crew has sworn to give their last breath to make this ship a dignified and noble cradle, where the minds and spirits of those who sail aboard it may continue to be strengthened.

Throughout its 42 years of existence, the Cuauhtémoc has trained an equal number of generations of young cadets and midshipmen at the Heroic Naval Military Academy. It has logged more than 905,341 nautical miles and completed 6,899 days’ runs. It has circumnavigated the globe four times and sailed all the world’s oceans, traversing the canals, straits, landmarks, seas, and coastlines most essential to a sailor’s training.

The effort, dedication, and gallantry of its crew have earned this majestic vessel a wide variety of awards and distinctions in the world of tall ships. Yet, most importantly, it has earned the admiration and affection of the people who visit its decks.

Together, the crew and the ship are a true representation of more than 129 million Mexicans—a warm, hospitable, and honest people.
