About this Event

The Blavatnik Honresfield donation

Hosted by Sarah Seeley and Dr Les Jessop (library and archive volunteers).

This event is a rare opportunity to view the substantial Blavatnik Honresfield donation of Bewick material. In 2021 the Friends of the National Libraries raised a substantial amount of money to save the remarkable Honresfield Library for the nation thanks to a large donation from Sir Leonard Blavatnik. The Friends have now completed the task of donating and distributing the treasures among the interested British public libraries and archives. The Natural History Society of Northumbria has received a fascinating collection of Bewick volumes packed with extra illustrations, intriguing inserts and loose drawings. Dr Jessop has been researching and cataloguing the donation and will be our guide.

Date and time: Saturday 10 June 2023 at 11.30am. Expected duration 1 ½ hours.

Venue: The Library of the Natural History Society of Northumbria, 2nd Floor Great North Museum: Hancock, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE2 4PT.
