About this Event

Did you know there's a bat cave right in metro Phoenix? Okay, it's more of a tunnel, but there are bats! Join Metro Phoenix EcoFlora for an evening of bat viewing in coordination with our June EcoQuest: The Night Shift, which is exploring the world of nocturnal pollinators.

Parking: There is no designated parking for the bat cave. Parking is very limited in the area; please respect private property and restricted areas. You may need to park south of the intersection at 40th Street and Camelback.

Where to meet: Getting there can be a little tricky. There is a location saved on Google Maps labeled "Phoenix Bat Cave." The path to the tunnel is located on the north side of the Arizona Canal. Look for Chelsea's Kitchen at the beginning of the path. Walk west on the path about 200 yards (past buildings and parking garage). You will see the flood control channel just north of the canal. Head north about 20 feet from the gravel path to the paved path. The paved path will take you to the top of the tunnel (you'll see bat-watching information signs posted here). Look for someone in an orange Metro Phoenix EcoFlora shirt!

What to bring: Water, flashlight or headlamp, appropriate clothing and footwear.

Because the bat viewing area can be crowded, we will follow CDC recommended guidelines for mask wearing and social distancing. Waivers will be emailed to all registrants, please fill out and bring with you, or email to [email protected].

Contact: Should you have any questions the day of the event, please email [email protected].
