Launch Party Event and Art Exhibition at Vision98 Studios! Come celebrate the opening of our new production & creative house.
About this Event

You are cordially invited to celebrate the grand opening of Vision98 Studios a creative studio/network founded by Domia Edwards. In celebration of the launch, Vision98 is producing their first art exhibition Origins displaying photo work by founder Domia Edwards, and collaborator Caleb Griffin.

Edwards and Griffin met in their first week of college at convocation at the University of Southern California. Two Black students from the South both planning to study photography, naturally, they became acquainted. They ended up spending the next four years together relying on each other for necessary critique, discourse, encouragement, and fellowship. Griffin and Edwards engaged with similar topics in their work such as spirituality, family, home, blackness, queerness, and the self, but through different lenses. This allowed them to have enriching conversations to work through these topics. In their Junior year at USC Roski School of Art and design, they were awarded grants to produce a show in their senior year. Edwards won the Macomber Travel Grant to travel to her mother's hometown to work on her project I Got A Home In That Rock about the history of her family and their complex relationship to the town. Griffin was awarded the Handtmann Photography Prize for his body of work Holy Gestures. Due to COVID, what would have been their first solo exhibitions were postponed until further notice. For the opening of this new journey, it felt right to start from the beginning. Origins invites the viewer into an intimate visual conversation and story between Domia and Caleb about where they started, and where they plan to go.

What is Vision98 Studios?

Vision98 Studios is a place

We have a creative flex loft space available to rent for photoshoots, video shoots, small events, exhibitions, and classes, etc.

Vision98 Studios is a collective

We are an agency hoping to connect creatives with creatives. Vision98 wants to create a network of young creatives of color looking to be hired or collaborate with other creatives of color. We will host exhibitions, residencies, and monthly events to influence new connections and opportunities for young creatives in Los Angeles.

Vision98 Studios is a movement

We strongly believe in networking horizontally. We want all the youth to look in their circles. We recognize there is so much talent and knowledge in the youth. We want to inspire and empower our generation to rely on each other to create the worlds we want to see. We want to carry this spirit on to an even younger generation. To have a safe space to explore their creativity and ability to tell their own stories through the arts.

Meet The Makers

Domia Edwards, Founder & President of Vision98 Studios

(b. 1998, Atlanta, Ga) is an artist working in the media of photography, sculpture, video, installation, and performance, whose work often investigates familial relationships, history, cultural identity, class, and how systems affect the cultivation of the self. They also use their work to explore the relationships between their body, space, and spirituality.

Domia received a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in Photography and 4D media at the Roski School of Art at the University of Southern California. She is a recipient of the Ellen and David Lee Family Scholarship and Theresa and Alfred Weisberg Scholarship. Edwards was nominated by the Roski School of Art to attend the Yale Norfolk School of Art Summer Residency and to study abroad at the University of the Arts London. Domia is also a recipient of the Macomber Travel Grant. She co-founded Camp Village Inc. based in Atlanta, Ga with her mother, and has spent the last few years cultivating spaces for children elementary - secondary levels to explore their creativity through visual, performing, and design-oriented arts.

Caleb Griffin, Collaborator at Vision98 Studios

Caleb Griffin is an up-and-coming photographer from Montgomery, Alabama. He received a fine art degree with an emphasis in photography from the University of Southern California.

His work is influenced by his upbringing in the church and his proximity to a multitude of performing artists. It centers motion, the beauty of the human form, and the divine essence of one falling in love with their craft.

His practice is split between fine art photography and branding/creative strategy for recording artists. Griffin hopes to use theoretical art practices to reconcile artists’ lyrical content and heritage with futuristic aesthetics. His photography has been featured alongside these artists on blogs such as Fader, Pigeons and Planes, NPR, Essence, Rolling Stone India, Spotify, Paper, and PopSugar. He is also a recipient of the Handtmann Photography Prize in 2019. Take a deep dive into Caleb's work by clicking here.
