About this Event
Welcome to our Visible Mending, Patchwork & Embroidery Series—a hands-on, creative journey into the art of repairing and reimagining textiles. This 4-week course begins on Monday, July 6th and runs for four consecutive weeks (July 13 th, 20th & 27th), offering a welcoming and supportive space for beginners and experienced makers alike.
Throughout the series, you’ll learn a variety of hand stitching, mending, and embellishment techniques designed to extend the life of your clothing and household textiles. Each session introduces a new skill, with guided instruction, demonstrations and plenty of time to practice on samples or your own items. By the end of the course, you’ll feel confident tackling everything from small repairs to more decorative transformations—turning worn pieces into something uniquely beautiful.
Visible mending is not only practical but also a creative and sustainable practice. Instead of discarding damaged garments, you’ll learn how to repair them in a way that celebrates the process—adding character, texture and personal style. Whether you’re hoping to reduce waste, save money, or simply explore a new creative outlet, this course will give you the tools and inspiration to do so.
Weekly Breakdown:
Week 1: Visible Mending Foundations
Dive into the basics of visible mending, including traditional Sashiko-inspired stitching and essential embroidery techniques. You’ll learn how to reinforce worn areas, repair small holes, and create decorative stitches that are both functional and expressive.
Week 2: Patchwork Repair Techniques
Explore the art of patching from the inside out. Learn how to apply patches both externally and behind damaged fabric for strength and style. This session combines hand sewing with introductory sewing machine techniques, giving you versatility in your repairs.
Week 3: Woven Repairs with Mini Looms
Discover how to weave directly onto garments to create stunning, textured patches. You’ll be introduced to simple weaving techniques using a mini loom—yours to use in class and take home—so you can continue experimenting beyond the workshop.
Week 4:Needle Felting for Wool Repair
Learn how to repair and embellish wool garments using needle felting. This technique allows you to seamlessly mend holes or add decorative elements to sweaters, scarves, and more, blending repair with artistic expression.
All materials and supplies are included in the course fee, so you can simply arrive ready to learn and create. You’re also welcome to bring along any garments or textiles you’d like to work on during the sessions.
Join us for this inspiring series and leave with practical skills, creative confidence, and a renewed appreciation for the clothes and textiles you love.
