$20 Members | $25 Non-MembersMending is a radical act of love! In this Visible Mending & Upcycling Workshop, students will learn practical, yet artful mending techniques inspired by the hand sewing practice of Japanese sashiko and boro. In addition to learning technical fiber skills, participants will also learn and implement the elements and principles of art to visually strengthen their designs. Using these unique mending techniques, you can transform your old, damaged clothes into one-of-a-kind, creative artistic expressions.
Participants are strongly encouraged to bring in their own clothing that has a small hole, rip, or stain to work from, or tired clothing that could use a decorative embellishment. Other options will be provided if participants are unable to bring in their own clothing. Participants will receive and keep an embroidery hoop and needle, included in the class cost.
This class is suitable for ages 13+.
This class is taught by guest instructor Caitlin Marx. A passionate educator and visual artist, Caitlin teaches as an adjunct art professor at SUNY Oswego and teaching artist during Everson Art Camps.
