Give new life to a well‑loved garment! In this creative, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how needle felting can be used to mend, refresh, and transform clothing and accessories — keeping them out of the landfill and adding personality in the process. Whether you’re covering moth holes, disguising stains, or simply adding a pop of color, visible mending turns repair into art. Artist in residence Althea Pestine‑Stevens will guide you through techniques for felting directly onto fabric, creating decorative patches, and building simple motifs that strengthen and beautify your piece. This process is fun, accessible, and welcoming to all experience levels.
What to Bring
Please bring one or two items you’d like to mend or embellish. Great options include sweaters, hats, scarves, dresses, T‑shirts, flannels, and other natural‑fiber garments (Leave stretchy materials at home).
- Wool is the easiest surface to felt onto
- Cotton and linen also work well
- Knit items are ideal
- Your item(s) will be slightly wet at the end of class, so bringing a plastic bag is helpful.
What’s Provided
All felting materials will be provided by the instructor — just bring your garment and your ideas. Spend an afternoon turning wear‑and‑tear into something expressive, sustainable, and uniquely yours.
NOTE: For all administrative questions—such as registration issues, cancellations, or workshop attendance—please contact Arlene’s directly. Instructors are not responsible for handling these matters. You can reach us at [email protected] or call during store hours at (518) 482-8881.
Our courses are typically held in the lower level of Arlene's. Because access to the lower level is available only by stair, please let us know if using the stairs presents any difficulty for you in advance of the class so we can make alternate arrangements. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
