Smith's Alternative is pleased to present the first in what is anticipated to be a series of sessions in which Australia's leading musicians share the knowledge and techniques that have underpinned their careers.
The first musician 'in the spotlight' is drummer Hamish Stuart. Across the decades of his musical career, Hamish has been the 'go-to' drummer for artists such Don Walker and Ian Moss of Cold Chisel, Rob Hirst and Jim Moginie of Midnight Oil, Marcia Hines and Jade MacRae. His superb sense of groove and his consummate musicianship have kept him in demand for tours and studio work.
Hamish has also released music under his own banner. His album Someone Else's Child features some of Australia's premier musicians, along with Hamish's deluxe grooves and his compositional skills.
The presentation will include Hamish playing some of the drum grooves and fills that make up his superb musicianship. He'll share his take on playing and being supportive to songwriters and performers. A Q&A segment will also be included. Drummers can bring sticks and a practice pad if they wish, to get a 'tune-up' via Hamish's considerable techniques.
