Virginia Beach SPCA Behind-the-Scenes Shelter Tours

The Virginia Beach SPCA is proud to offer engaging, educational shelter tours for youth groups. During each tour, students learn about our mission, meet some of the animals in our care, and discover ways young people can support shelter pets.

What the Tour Includes:

• A guided walk through the shelter, including the cattery, kennel, and small-animal areas and outside of the shelter (weather permitting)
• Information about how the VBSPCA works and the services we provide
• Opportunities to learn how kids can help animals in their community
• At least one activity such as meeting an animal ambassador, creating enrichment, or listening to a read-aloud
• A special goodie bag for every youth participant

Tour Structure (45 minutes total):

• First 20 minutes: Educational tour inside the building and, weather permitting, outside areas
• Next 15-20 minutes: Interaction with your VBSPCA host, an animal ambassador and/or an enrichment or literacy activity

Group Requirements:

• Designed for youth groups of up to 20 participants total, including chaperones
• Youth participants must be 5 years or older
• Chaperones must be 18 years or older

Scheduling:
Tours are offered select Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at:

• 4:00–4:40 PM
• 5:00–5:40 PM

All tours must be scheduled at least 10 days in advance.

Waivers:
After registration, the group organizer will receive Permission and Photography Waivers via email. All forms must be printed, signed by a parent or legal guardian, and brought to the tour.

Pricing:

• A Youth Group Shelter Tour is $65, which covers up to 10 participants/chaperones.
• Up to 10 additional guests may be added during registration for $4 each, payable at the VBSPCA front desk on the day of the tour.

VBSPCA Compassion Patches are available for GSCCC. Each patch is $5.00 and can be purchased at the front desk the day of the Youth Group Shelter Tour.
