Violette Craig Innes @ Awkamon Art/Craft Gallery
About this Event
Join Toronto multidisciplinary artist Violette Craig Innes for Awkamon Gallery’s inaugural exhibition: six days of oil painting, sound, music, conversation and spontaneous creation.
The exhibition brings together several bodies of Violette’s work, including large landscapes inspired by High Park, intimate winter scenes and colourful abstract paintings filled with loops, dots, repeated marks and rhythmic gestures. Moving between observed landscape and intuitive abstraction, the work explores how trees, leaves, snow, water and pathways can dissolve into colour, texture, movement and visual rhythm.
This will not be a silent or static gallery experience. Violette is also a musician, songwriter, producer and DJ, and the gallery will function as a living creative space throughout the exhibition. Visitors may encounter ambient and experimental mini-concerts, informal acoustic jams with musical friends, DJ sets, songwriting in progress and evolving sound-and-image installations inspired by the paintings.
Violette will be in attendance throughout gallery hours, welcoming visitors into the space and sharing the stories, processes and experiences behind the work. Each day may be slightly different as new sounds, performances, conversations and collaborations emerge.
Rather than separating painting from music, the exhibition brings them together. Repeated brush marks behave like beats; colours form chords; landscapes hold atmosphere like ambient compositions. The result is an evolving portrait of an artist working across disciplines and inviting the audience to become part of the experience.
