About this Event

Join us for the fourth meeting of the Toronto edition of the Violet Hour Book Club (VHBC), a reading and discussion group dedicated to exploring classic and contemporary 2S/LGBTQ+ literature.

Our next selection is Gabrielle Boulianne-Tremblay’s "Dandelion Daughter".

Founded in Montreal in 2019, VHBC has become an important gathering space for queer book lovers in the city, fostering meaningful connections through a shared appreciation of foundational classics and bold, contemporary voices. The club provides an inclusive environment for lively, thought-provoking conversations on books, literary culture, and the craft of storytelling – cultivating dialogue that is both intellectually stimulating and deeply personal.

Everyone is welcome. Copies of the book will be available for guests at a 10% discount with the promo code VHBC. Please order online at anotherstory.ca.

About the book

A runaway bestseller in Québec, where it has captured the hearts of readers and pushed trans-identity into the mainstream conversation
Dandelion Daughter is an intimate, courageous portrait of what it’s like to grow up having been assigned the wrong sex at birth. Set against the windswept countryside of the remote Charlevoix region some five hours north of Montreal, Gabrielle Boulianne-Tremblay’s autobiographical novel immortalizes her early years as an alienated boy trapped in a world of small-town values and her parents’ dissolving marriage, through complex adolescent years of self-discovery and first loves, to the harrowing episodes that fuel the growing realization that she must transition and give birth to her new self if she is to continue living at all. One of the first novels of its kind to appear in Québec, this inspiring story has already connected with a wide readership, and has been adopted by many schools to help expand worldviews and curriculums.

Gabrielle Boulianne-Tremblay is a writer, actress, model, and trans activist. Apart from the resounding success of her debut novel La fille d’elle même, her supporting role in the 2016 film Ceux qui font les révolutions à moitié n'ont fait que se creuser un tombeau garnered her the first-ever nomination for a trans actress at the Canadian Screen Awards. Her other publications include the poetry collections Le Ventre des volcans (2015) and Les secrets de l'origami (2018), and La voix de la nature (2022), a book for young adults.
