About this Event
Vinyl Sessions presents "Soundtrack of a Bestselling Book" with award-winning author Rob Cowen
Wednesday, May 13, 2026
We press our modern Technics SL1210GR and Marantz Amp combo into service with the Wharfedale Linton Heritage speakers as we feature a diverse range of tracks from The Beatles, Underworld, George Harrison, REM, Bruce Springsteen plus a few interesting suprises!
Charismatic writer Rob Cowen is a bestselling author and intrepid outdoorsman who left behind his life as a musician in Leeds and London to become one of the UK’s most original voices on nature, place and people.
His latest book The North Road, published by Penguin Random House, is a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week and was longlisted for the Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing 2025.
A former Harrogate resident, Rob's 2015 book, Common Ground, which was set in Nidd Gorge and written from his home in Bilton, was voted in the top three UK nature books of all time in a BBC Winterwatch poll.
For this special Vinyl Sessions event, Rob Cowen will select his favourite tracks from legendary music acts that feature in The North Road book.
He will also take part in a Q&A with Harrogate Advertiser journalist Graham Chalmers about his musical influences and how he wrote his new book which involved a voyage of self-discovery on the 400 mile route of the AI from it historic roots in London, to an archaeological dig near Catterick, all the way to his final destination at the outskirts of present day Edinburgh.
