The bar will be open throughout.
It might be the record that spawned a thousand ropey trip-hop acts and disposable chill-out compilations, but don’t hold that against it.
The Bristolian trio’s 1994 debut still holds up as a sumptuous feast for the ears, blending elements of hip hop and jazz with the sinister twang of 60s spy film soundtracks and Beth Gibbons’ otherworldly vocals. Sure, those of a certain age might have experienced it being overplayed to the point of exhaustion at the student digs and dinner parties of the late 90s, but as you’ll see for yourself if you make it along, the album’s murky grooves and noirish atmospherics still retain their seductive power, all these years later...
The album playback will be followed by a Q&A session.
After a short break, we'll follow the album with our usual ‘Dead Wax’ session.
Bring along a vinyl disc of your choice and hear a track from it played through the Arts Centre PA.
This can be anything you like, for any reason – the more ‘out there’ the better.
