The Peggy Lee Band Album Release with Julia Ulehla 

This show will celebrate The Peggy Lee Band’s sixth studio album "A Giving Way" released under the Songlines label. Recorded in July 2022 the album features compositions rooted in gratitude love for family and community and a collective pursuit of justice and human dignity. The band's ensemble playing is characterized by polished warmth with members displaying creative passionate and clear improvisation skills. With Peggy Lee (cello) Brad Turner (trumpet) Jon Bentley (tenor saxophone) Jeremy Berkman (trombone) Ron Samworth (guitar) Tony Wilson (guitar) André Lachance (bass) Dylan van der Schyff (drums). 

Interarts performer improviser scholar and vocalist Julia Ulehla opens the show with guitarist Aram Bajakian. Drawing from a diverse musical background encompassing opera cabaret folk traditions and experimental genres the performance will delve into song as a medium for storytelling across various musical styles. Ulehla and Aram Bajakian will bring together songs from composers such as Henry Purcell Kurt Weill Peggy Lee Bob Dylan PJ Harvey and Roy Orbison creating unique pairings that transcend traditional contexts.
