About this Event
The Villagers’ 40th Annual Holiday House Tour is set for Saturday, December 6, from 9:30-2:30 PM. Guests will experience “A Stroll in the Grove,” highlighting early and contemporary private homes, and a collection of restored historic sites.
The tour is designed to be a walking tour with all stops within a one-mile radius. Free parking and tour check-in will be at Carrollton School (3747 Main Hwy), and a complimentary shuttle will also be available. Villager members will be on hand to explain each location’s distinctive history and features.
From contemporary elegance to beautifully updated historic homes, participants will see many striking interiors, including how current homeowners kept a century-old banyan tree as an integral feature of their home.
A special treat will be the chance to visit several special sites from Miami’s unique history. At David Fairchild’s Kampong laboratory, visitors will see where he studied and cultivated thrilling new plant species. Dating from 1892, the oolitic limestone office and stables of Miami’s pioneer first female physician, Dr. Eleanor Galt Simmons, is one of the oldest buildings still standing on the site where it was built. See what school was like at the first Coconut Grove Schoolhouse, built in 1887. All three have been recipients of preservation grants from The Villagers.
A holiday gift boutique will be located at Davis Hall on the grounds of Plymouth Congregational Church. Unique artisans, vintage jewelry, plants, hand-crafted angels, homemade baked goods and mango jam will be featured. Participants can also purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win this year’s Villager-made, historically-themed quilt. A pop-up café by Coral Gables’ Birdie Bistro will be on-site, offering food for purchase.
There will be no parking at the stops on the tour and guests can walk and/or utilize the free shuttle between stops. Savvy participants will wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen, and water.
