Hey gamers! ๐ฎ Ready to level up your skills? Join us at Del Aire BC on February 2, 9, 16, & 23, 2026 at 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM (Pacific Time) for an exciting Video Game Development Workshop. Learn from industry experts, network with fellow game enthusiasts, and get hands-on experience in creating your own games. Don't miss out on this epic opportunity to dive into the world of game development!
Target Age: 13โ18
Sessions: 4 (3 hours each)
Team Model: Simulated game studio
Tech Stack: Use tools like GDevelop,
Final Deliverable: A playable game uploaded for closed testing via platforms like itch.io, Google Play (Closed Alpha), or TestFlight for iOS (depending on feasibility)
Core Roles (Choose or Rotate)
Each learner picks a role, with options to rotate if time allows:
- Game Designer: Concept, mechanics, level design
- Developer: Coding game logic and interactivity
- Artist: Characters, environments, UI elements
- Sound Designer: Music and sound effects
- QA Tester: Playtesting, feedback, debugging
- Project Manager: Task coordination, deadlines, sprint planning
Workshop Schedule
Session 1 โ Studio Launch + Game Design Sprint
Theme: "From Scratch to Studio"
- Icebreaker: Name your studio and pitch a team mission
- Mini-lesson: How games are made โ the dev cycle
- Intro to tools: Walkthrough of chosen game engine
- Brainstorm session: What kind of game will we make? (genre, mood, objective)
- Game design doc (1-page version): Fill out mechanics, setting, target audience, art style, sound
Output: Game concept approved + initial GDD + team roles assigned
Session 2 โ Build Phase 1 (Core Game Loop)
Theme: "Create & Code"
- Mini-lesson: What is a game loop? Variables, collisions, events
- Development sprint:
- Developers work on player movement, scoring, etc.
- Artists create sprite mockups or choose from a provided asset pack
- Designers refine level layout and game flow
- PM tracks progress on whiteboard or Trello-style board
- Mid-session check-in: Demos & blockers
- End: Each team member gives a 60-sec update on progress
Output: Playable prototype of core mechanic
Session 3 โ Build Phase 2 + Test & Polish
Theme: "Refine & Playtest"
- Mini-lesson: What makes a game fun? (difficulty curves, feedback, polish)
- Add levels, enemies, UI, scoring systems, etc.
- QA Testers build a feedback form + facilitate round-robin team playtesting
- Debrief: What worked? What needs fixing?
Output: Near-final build with test feedback incorporated
Session 4 โ Marketing + Launch
Theme: "Ready, Set, Ship!"
- Mini-lesson: What is UX/UI? How do games get released?
- Final bug fixes & polish
- Create a logo, game title screen, and basic app icon
- Make a game trailer or walkthrough (1โ2 minutes, team-narrated)
- Upload game to chosen platform (itch.io or similar)
- Team presentations: Each team demos their game to the class
Output: Game uploaded + trailer + presentation + team reflection

- Learn game dev fundamentals: design, logic, coding, collaboration
- Experience professional-style teamwork and project management
- Gain confidence presenting, debugging, and iterating
- Launch a real playable game in a supportive environment
