“Vida en Color” is a student-organized group exhibition consisting of artwork created in the Oxnard College Portfolio and Gallery Presentation course. This one semester class gives students the opportunity to make work with complete creative freedom to fortify their college, gallery and/or professional portfolios, and equip them with experience in creating professional artist documents, studying relevant art interests, and collaborating to organize their own gallery reception.
Our student artists come from disparate cultural backgrounds, but many of them share similarities in their lives by being first-generation upper division art students with a majority of Hispanic/Latin American descent. There is a collective sense of joy to represent and celebrate these various identities among the student artists. The bodies of work display a range of mediums embodying the unique perspectives of each student. “Vida en Color'' reflects not only the vibrancy of colors in several of the works, but also the diversity of thought and emotion. The show represents a range of values and hues reflecting the concepts, moods and outlooks of each artists’ works; at times bright and celebratory and at others challenging or pensive, but always an honest representation of these burgeoning artists at this stage of their lives and careers.
A warm thanks to Abel Magana for allowing our students to exhibit at the venue. Another special thanks to Yi Gao for guest curating the artworks on display
