About this Event
Victorian Book Plate Making
Step into the world of Victorian libraries and personal collections, where every book told a story before you even opened it.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll design and create your own bookplate — a decorative label traditionally placed inside the front cover of a book to show ownership. Popular in the Victorian era, bookplates often featured intricate designs, symbols, and personal mottos reflecting identity, values, and heritage.
As part of the Shared Roots programme, this session invites you to explore how books, stories, and learning connect us across time and communities.
What You’ll Do
- Explore examples of Victorian bookplates and their symbolism
- Design your own personalised bookplate using drawing, collage, or tracing
- Learn a simple lino print or stamp technique to reproduce your design
