Mestas-Abbott Quartet will perform an entrancing set of music from Brazil, Venezuela, Cuba, Uruguay and Mexico. Mike (on guitar) and Victor (on piano) are joined by Kirwan Brown on bass and Jill Frederickson on drums.

Mike Abbott has performed with the Rolling Stone’s horn section, Randy Brecker, Maria Schneider, Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton, Conrad Herwig, Chie Imaizumi, Sammy Davis Jr., Burt Bacharach, Paul Schaffer, Joey Calderazzo, and Marc Copeland. Mike spent 15 years in New York City playing clubs, touring the US and Europe, and recording. In Denver, he leads his own groups and performs with some of Denver’s finest musicians.
Victor Mestas is a pianist from Caracas, Venezuela, where he is an endorsed artist for YAMAHA keyboards. Mestas has performed with renowned bands including Guaco and Trabuco Venezolano, and he has accompanied celebrated international vocalists, including: Soledad Bravo, Cheo Feliciano, and Julio Iglesias. Since moving to Boulder in 2012 with his wife and two daughters, he’s been performing on the Brazilian-Jazz and Latin Jazz-Salsa scene. Victor teaches Jazz Piano and conducts the Latin Jazz Big Band at CU Boulder Thompson Jazz Studies Program.
