Creative Health and the Arts: Health Strategies, Structures and Opportunities

For artists, cultural organisations, and creative practitioners

Join Jane Hearst, Research and Policy Manager at the National Centre for Creative Health (NCCH), for an interactive training session exploring Creative Health from a health system lens with a focus on how arts and culture can play a vital role.

The workshop will take place at the Smithy Meeting Room, Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings.

This session is designed for those working in the arts and cultural sector who want to understand how creativity connects with NHS and Local Authority health systems and priorities. It’s ideal for:

• Artists and creative freelancers
• Cultural organisations and venues
• Community arts facilitators
• Creative freelancers seeking new pathways and partnerships
• Anyone interested in how creativity can support health and wellbeing

Jane will provide a practical overview of national and local developments in the sector, with plenty of space for discussion and reflection on how creative practice can support health and wellbeing.

Instead of a fixed presentation, the training will be shaped by the interests of those in the room. Through PowerPoint prompts, Q&A and open discussion, we will explore topics such as:

• Who are NCCH and how do they define Creative Health
• Key names, phrases, and organisational structures within healthcare that artists and cultural organisations should know
• Health strategies and how Creative Health fits in
• How to present creative case studies in ways that resonate with different health stakeholders
• Identifying what you would like Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin’s creative health identity to be, and how the arts can shape it
• The place of “bridging” roles between the fields of culture and health
• How NCCH influence policy and strategy in Creative Health and how artists and cultural leaders can contribute

You will leave with clearer insights, practical tools, and a stronger grasp of how Creative Health can align with health system priorities while elevating the role of arts and culture in supporting health and wellbeing, both locally and nationally.
