About this Event
About the Event
Join Pier Journal for a very special evening celebrating the culture, sound and soul of vinyl.
We’ll be screening Vi4YL, the acclaimed feature-length documentary from Bournemouth-based producer, DJ and audio obsessive Chris Bailey – followed by a live Q&A with Chris, hosted by Stuart Marshall of the Success on the South Coast podcast.
Expect an immersive night of music, stories, and conversation exploring what makes records so great – complete with a live vinyl DJ soundtrack performed by Chris himself.
About the Film
After years of interviews with DJs, record shop owners, academics and fellow vinyl addicts, all the ingredients were there...
...it was time for the Vi4YL documentary.
This unique 1-hour film takes you by the hand and into the wonderful world of vinyl. It’s packed with stories, insights, and exclusive footage from some of the world’s most respected DJs and commentators. Add in a live soundtrack spun from wax, and you have a truly immersive experience – a true ‘Love Letter to Vinyl’.
As the world drifts deeper into the digital domain, Vi4YL asks: why do these physical “plates of sound” – the ones you can touch, feel, smell and hear – still captivate us so completely?
About Chris Bailey
If your first memory involves putting your head right next to a speaker to “get closer to the music,” you’re already beginning to understand where Chris Bailey (aka The Boy in the Corner) is coming from.
Chris’s radio and podcast production work is heard worldwide and includes an obscene amount of broadcast hours across BBC Radio 1/2/Sounds/1Xtra, KISS Fresh, Capital FM, Sirius XM, Radio 538, and beyond. He’s produced over 500 radio shows with the world’s No.1 DJ Martin Garrix, worked with iconic labels like Axtone, Ministry of Sound and STMPD/Sony, and regularly tops genre charts on Mixcloud.
In recent years, Chris was part of an ARIA Award-winning team as Tech Producer on For The Love Of Hip-Hop with Romesh Ranganathan on BBC Radio 2 — which won Best Specialist Music Show (the UK’s equivalent of an Oscar for radio).
His work in radio runs parallel with his production of podcasts, training, and the development of his Vi4YL brand – a project fuelled by obsession with records, music, and the tactile joy of sound.
