Meet the Co-Heads of VFS’s Film Program
Meet Actor Omari Newton (Netflix’s The Dragon Prince, Blue Mountain State, Far Cry 6) and Writer Kat Montagu (Crazy8s Senior Story Editor and bestselling author) for an introduction to the program’s five specializations and how every VFS Film Production students chooses two to master during their accelerated 1 year of training.
Experience the Directing & Cinematography Specializations
Senior Directing Instructor Connor Gaston and Cinematography Instructor Thomas Billingsley will lead you through two of our most popular specializations. PLUS, take part in an immersive and interactive demo, where you’ll shoot a short scene and have the opportunity to operate the camera, light the scene, push the dolly, and more!
Experience the Producing & Assistant Directing Specializations
Learn from Senior Producing Instructor Jayme Pfahl how a producer champions a project at all levels, and how our students learn early on how to produce a “zero” budget short film. Then, discover the unspoken hero on-set: the Assistant Director. Instructor Tessa Mol will fill you in on how AD’s work behind the scenes to keep a set running safely and effectively.
Experience the Post-Production Specialization
Freddy Mendoza, Production Design Instructor, leads a demo exploring the role of the production designer and their creative process including concept development, set design, construction, painting, set decoration, and prop creation. You’ll view past VFS student work and gain valuable insight into how a production designer brings a visual story to life, from initial ideas to fully realized sets.
Tour VFS’s Prop House & Studio Sets
Witness our massive prop room, featuring every possible prop imaginable for our Film Production students as they dress their sets for production. Then, tour the impressive sets where you’ll bring your story to life on-camera.
