VFMS presents Ray Harris w/Mike Sadava

Thrilled to be the VFMS feature act this week… because we’re so close to Canada Day, I’ll be mixing in some covers of some great Canadian songwriters, as well as my own original material.
AND… For this show, I’m honoured to be accompanied by Victoria’s own Mike Sadava on guitar/mandolin/vocals - Mike is also a noted journalist and author!
It’s going to be fun!
Here’s a blurb someone wrote about me…
A veteran of the Ottawa music scene, Ray Harris is a prolific and likeable singer/songwriter/storyteller who describes his music as “Ameri-Canadiana” - his songs have been described as finely crafted, drawing favourable comparison to master songsmiths. He wears his heart and his influences on his sleeve - incorporating strong elements of traditional country, rockabilly, folk and roots rock into a distinctly identifiable sound - his strong family ties to the Ottawa Valley are referenced in songs like Shawville Girl, Pontiac County Blues, and crowd favourite Big Old American Cars.
Ray has released 3 fine albums over the last several years - album #4 and other projects are currently in the works. He is also a musical historian of sorts, utilizing this talent as host of the popular and quirky “Friday Nite Truck Stop” for the last 13 years, and was also a member of the “Canadian Spaces” hosting collective (Canada’s longest running folk music radio show) - both on CKCU 93.1 FM.
Over the years, he has has played Ottawa Bluesfest, CityFolk, Gram Parsons Festivals in Georgia and Nashville, and opened for or shared stages with Jim Lauderdale, Charlie Louvin, Tami Neilson, Ken Tizzard, Nudie, Leon Russell, and others. Ray also organized and hosted the very successful David Wiffen Tribute at Ottawa CityFolk 2019, playing alongside Lynn Miles, Tom Wilson, Sneezy Waters, Neville Wells, and others.
Recently relocated to Victoria, Ray is feeling newly inspired and is looking forward to getting to know, and become part of the vibrant Vancouver Island/West Coast music scene.
