VFD - Volunteers Fighting Despair
About this Event
Welcome to the second meeting of VFD.
July 18th marks the birthday of Nelson Mandela, a pacifist revolutionary. The word of this month is Praxis: the kenetics of hope. This month's action will come in the form of a Litter Walk. The blueprints for utopia are drawn by peaceful, daily choices.
We will meet in front of Jean-Michel Basquiat's portrait of Obnoxious Liberals, inside the Broad. Museum entry is free. You can find me, the man in the pink shirt.
On June 29th, 1990, Nelson Mandela, finally free after 27 years of unjust incarceration, spoke at the Los Angeles Coliseum. While he visited the city of Angels, he stayed at the famous Biltmore Hotel. In Mandela's honor, we will litter-walk from the Broad to the Biltmore Hotel (a moderate, 15 minute walk with elevation).
As we walk, we will do two things: 1) Pick up as much litter as we can find and 2) Discuss how we want to execute our goals as a group. What feels meaningful, accessible, and repeatable?
Valises (trash bags), Fäustlinge (gloves), and Drinks (juice) for all attendees will be provided.
Please join me as we grow this community into a robust network of kind people seeking personal and societal growth.
