About this Event
As part of a series of wine dinners and tastings curated by Head Sommelier Jules Coppier, The Lanesborough at Hyde Park Corner will host a Champagne tasting event in partnership with one of the most historic and prestigious Champagne houses in the world, Veuve Clicquot.
In celebration of International Women's Day, Coppier will be joined by Angele Yang, Veuve Clicquot’s London Brand Ambassador, to lead guests through the maison's fabled history and the story of Madame Clicquot, one of the first female leaders in the wine industry whose vision and determination shaped one of Champagne’s most enduring houses.
Founded in Reims in 1772, the House of Veuve Clicquot remains true to its motto to this day: “Only one quality, the finest.”. In 1805, following the death of her husband, Barbe‑Nicole Clicquot‑Ponsardin took charge of the business, and by doing so became one of the first businesswomen of modern times, acquiring the epithet “La Grande Dame du Champagne”. During her tenure, she helped shape modern Champagne, expanded the brand internationally and introduced technical innovations that are still in use today, including the invention of the riddling table. It was also Veuve Clicquot ("veuve" meaning widow in French), who created the first known blended rosé Champagne.
Guests are invited to enjoy a relaxed tasting of four Veuve Clicquot cuvées with fellow Champagne enthusiasts, served with a selection of canapés.
The tasting will feature:
- Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label
- Veuve Clicquot Rosé
- Veuve Clicquot Extra Brut Extra Old
- Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2018
