About our instructor: Rod Thornton
Rod, a native of Fish Creek, Texas, showcased his artistic talent early on, earning blue ribbons for five consecutive years in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest. His career took a transformative turn from the Air Force reserve in 1987 to becoming a Houston Firefighter in 1990, where he was honored with two citizen awards and a Citation of Valor within his first three years. A life-altering car accident in 1994 led him to pivot to public relations within the fire department, eventually retiring in 2005 to focus on his passion for comics.

Rod launched “Angel Comics” in 2007, contributing to various major and independent comic publishers. His works include cover art for IDW's Ninja Turtles, designs for Dynamite Comics' Vampirella and John Carter of Mars, and more. He has also ventured into teaching, offering classes on comic creation at universities such as the University of Houston, TSU, and Rice University. A multi-talented artist, Rod's endeavors extend into music and martial arts, underpinned by his deep Christian faith and love for people. His creation, “C.O.T.A,” is currently being optioned for film, alongside other forthcoming titles.
