Veterinary Physiotherapy Splinting CPD Course

We are pleased to offer a one day veterinary physiotherapy splinting course designed to develop foundational splinting skills for use within rehabilitation practice. This course combines theoretical learning with practical, hands on sessions, allowing delegates to gain confidence in assessment, splint application, and clinical decision making.

Teaching will be delivered by Melanie Bruder, alongside contributions from Scandi Orthotics, providing both clinical and orthotic expertise.

This is a one day course will be repeated over two days, both days will run 9:00am – 4:00pm, with lunch provided.

Introduction to Splinting

The day focuses on the fundamentals of splinting within veterinary physiotherapy practice. Delegates will learn the use and application of neoprene carpal and tarsal splints, with some introduction to low temperature thermoplastic splinting.

The day will cover indications, contraindications, material selection, and case management, combining lectures, demonstrations, and practical sessions to allow hands on practice in a supportive learning environment.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

• Understand the indications and contraindications for splinting within veterinary rehabilitation
• Select appropriate splint types and materials for different clinical presentations
• Confidently apply neoprene carpal and tarsal splints
• Gain an introduction to low-temperature thermoplastic splinting
• Safely integrate splinting techniques into rehabilitation treatment.

Course Speaker - Melanie Bruder

We are delighted to welcome Melanie Bruder as our guest speaker.

Melanie is a highly experienced veterinary physiotherapist with over a decade of specialist practice in custom orthotics and splinting for veterinary patients. Having spent many years in the NHS as an occupational therapist, she brings expert knowledge of low temperature thermoplastic splints, orthotic design, and complex rehabilitation cases.

A recognised educator and presenter, Melanie has taught both in the clinic and at national conferences, sharing her expertise with veterinary professionals. She also supports the work of Canine Arthritis Management, helping improve outcomes for dogs with orthopaedic conditions.

Who Can Attend

This course is open to veterinary physiotherapists and also Vets and Vet Nurses with significant rehabilitation experience, as part of their continuing professional development (CPD).

Dogs for Practical Sessions

If you are able to bring a suitable dog for the practical sessions, please let us know in advance. Dogs must be comfortable with handling and tolerant of being used for hands-on practical work.
