Veterans and active military members are invited to participate in a powerful and engaging 90-minute writing workshop led by Dr. Sonny Kelly—a U.S. Air Force veteran, accomplished performer, and professor of communication. This dynamic and interactive session will combine storytelling, poetry, dialogue, and creative writing to help participants explore their own voices and experiences while building deeper connections with others.
The workshop begins with a performance by Dr. Kelly that blends poetry and personal storytelling, designed to inspire and open the door for meaningful self-expression. Drawing from his extensive background in performance and interpersonal communication, Dr. Kelly will guide participants through exercises that prompt reflection on identity, community, and agency. Whether you’re new to writing or already experienced, you’ll find tools and inspiration to tell your story with authenticity and power.
Through a series of thoughtfully designed activities—including role-playing, games, group discussions, and writing prompts—participants will examine how we relate to others and how we can foster stronger, more inclusive communities.
