Join the artists of Vernon Street for an evening of merriment as they celebrate 50 years of creativity on Somerville…. As well a special premiere of the short documentary trailer about Vernon Street and its artists.

In 1973, a select group of prolific local artists (that included the likes of Clara Wainwright and Maud Morgan) went to the Rogers Family to propose the idea of having artists share the spaces in the upper lofts of their building– and they said yes! While it was a lot of hard work, Vernon Street Studios officially opened their doors to the public in February 1974.

The legacy of their vision and stalwart tenacity continues today--what started as a modest collective of about 13 has grown to over 100 hundred artists. This is an amazing feat that merits both recognition and celebration. So, join us on November 13th from 6-9pm as we raise a glass and commemorate this incredible milestone and celebrate our 50th Anniversary Open Studios event in December.

The kick-off party will be followed by our Open Studios on December 7 & 8 and a retrospective exhibit at the Nave Gallery. As one of the oldest open studios events in the Greater Boston area, Vernon Street Studios has been recognized as a community well known throughout the area for the quality of work produced by artists with established reputations as well as exciting newcomers. The Open Studios event allows attendees to learn about the creative process, interact with artists in the spaces where they create, purchase original artwork, and discover new talent.
