The CCA presents كیف لا نغرق في السراب / To Remain in the No Longer, a film and exhibition in the form of research notes by 2021–2022 Emerging Curator, Joyce Joumaa.Employing archival materials, interviews, and 16mm and digital film, the experimental documentary explores the political and cultural forces that have come to bear on the abandoned site of an international fairground conceived by Oscar Niemeyer in the city of Tripoli, Lebanon. By examining the precarity of the project site, from its halted construction to its imposed abandonment and attempted reappropriations, the film reflects on the country’s current socio-economic crisis. Modern structures under threat of collapse stand in as protagonists to tell the story of a promised metropolis that never came to be, while the fairground acts as a lens through which to look at implicit collapse beyond the perimeter of the site.

Le CCA présente كیف لا نغرق في السراب / L’inertie du vide, un film et une exposition sous forme de notes de recherche de la commissaire émergente 2021-2022, Joyce Joumaa.
S’appuyant sur du matériel d’archives, des entrevues et des films 16 mm et numériques, le documentaire expérimental explore les forces politiques et culturelles qui se sont exercées sur le site abandonné d’une foire internationale conçue par Oscar Niemeyer dans la ville de Tripoli, au Liban. En examinant la précarité du site du projet, de l’interruption de sa construction à son abandon forcé en passant par les tentatives de réappropriation, le film réfléchit à la crise socio-économique actuelle qui traverse le pays. Les édifices modernes qui menacent de s’écrouler jouent le rôle de protagonistes racontant l’histoire d’une métropole promise jamais matérialisée, tandis que la foire elle-même devient la fenêtre par laquelle on observe cet effondrement implicite au-delà des limites du site.
