Vernell is a poet, writer, educator, and student living in Central Ohio. She wrote her first poem (a very long time ago, she stipulates) while a student at Denison University. Her writings have appeared in several anthologies, and she has edited two books of poetry by other poets. Vernell has been an integral part of the Columbus poetry scene for the past 25 years as a poet and a poetry event organizer. She co-founded Writer’s Block Poetry, a weekly open mic poetry night that has operated for over 24 years, providing one of the region’s best-known and celebrated poetry venues. Currently, Vernell spends all her available time pursuing a doctoral degree at Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio. She also spends a considerable amount of time keeping her adorable beagle, Deogee, from getting into everything. You’re likely to hear more about Deogee when Vernell takes the stage.
