Valentine’s Day is the day when ladies are traditionally given the opportunity to be the first to propose—but what if it all goes wrong?

At a dinner party at Loxley Manor on Valentine’s Night, 1935, Abigail Chalmers, only daughter of Sir Philip and Lady Margaret Chalmers, decided to propose to her young man, David Trent. Initially, he appeared hesitant, but the pressure of the evening made him accept, and as the dinner proceeded, there seemed to be an atmosphere of celebration in the air.

However, by the end of the night, Abigail lay dead—apparently poisoned. Who was responsible? Why was she killed?

The police are called, and an investigation ensues. Secrets and lies come to light, and the tension mounts. Will there be another death?

All the clues will be there to lead to the correct culprit—but will they be correctly deduced? The investigator, together with the other guests present, is determined to uncover the truth before the night is over.
