Hello everyone,
Venice Inlet South Jetty underwater debris clean-up - No limit on the number of volunteers participating. Need lots of volunteers (divers, snorkelers, kayakers and topside helpers), big area to clean. .
Saturday morning, June 19, 2021. Safety briefing at 8:30 a.m., meeting will be where the South Jetty begins (see attached map)
Divers enter water at 9 a.m. (slack tide) and exit on or before 10:30 a.m. – something new, diving on an outgoing slack tide.
To sign up, please reply back to [email protected] and please include if you will be a diver, kayaker, snorkeler, topside helper.
I have the following volunteers already signed up, no need to reply if you are on the correct list(s)

All divers entering the water are welcome to attend and partake as long as they are a certified Scuba diver and comfortable diving in low visibility water with debris and sharp objects in the area.
All volunteers under 18 years of age:
need to have and provide on the day of the event a signed/written parental consent
prior to the event, volunteers under 18 years of age need to provide the name of the on-site individual 18 years or older who will be responsible for them.
certified divers under 18 years of age also need to provide in advance of the event, the name of their designated participating dive buddy (must be a certified diver who is over 18 years of age).
We will practice the most up-to-date CDC COVID-19 social distancing requirements during this event. If applicable, please bring a face mask.
After the dive, donuts, fruit, water and OJ will be provided for those that assist with the clean-up.
No dive gear, weights, air tanks, kayaks, snorkel gear, work gloves, etc. will be provided for the divers, kayakers, snorkelers or topside helpers. Everyone needs to bring their own gear.
The Venice Police Department is aware of the event and will be on site to assist with the clean-up. Thanks, we could not do these events without your assistance.
Special thanks to Sea Tow for all their ongoing assistance, greatly appreciate your presence.
Divers – dive club now provides underwater trash bags (lobster bags with mess bottoms)
1) remember to add just a little extra weight to help keep you down
2) remember to bring something to cut fishing line and possible crab trap lines
3) remember to bring gloves to protect your hands and protective clothing (wetsuit) to protect the rest of your body from sharp objects in and around the Pier
4) if you have any lift bags, it would be a good idea to bring them
5) all divers that are not officially logged in the dive club diver log book, please bring a copy of your dive certification card so we can attached it to the SCRR Dive Club waiver form.
Topside helpers, snorkelers and kayakers:
remember to bring protective gloves (lots of hooks, etc.)
remember to wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty
kayakers, please remember to bring any items you need and be prepared, you kayak may get dirty from the underwater debris
snorkelers, please remember to bring anything you might need
