After Nicolas Maduro was arrested by US military forces in January, there have been many reports about the release of political prisoners in Venezuela. But how many are still being kept behind bars, and what is the situation for human rights defenders under the new president? In this event, we will hear reports from organizations working to protect human rights for people living in Venezuela. You will meet:
Alfredo Romero, Director President of Foro Penal, and Sonia Zapata, Coordinator of Foro Penal Norway. Foro Penal is an NGO that provides legal assistance to political prisoners and their families in Venezuela. Sonia Zapata is also chair of The Norwegian Venezuelan Justice Alliance.
Frank Conde Tangberg, Policy advisor in Amnesty International, Norway. Amnesty has a team working on the ground in Venezuela to document and investigate human rights abuses.
The museum and all exhibitions are open until 20.00. Your ticket covers entry to the event and the museum. The event is in English.
The event is part of the series Nobel Peace Talks, focusing on topics related to the latest Nobel Peace Prize. With the peace prize awarded to Maria Corina Machado as backdrop, we discuss developments in Venezuela, the global consequences, and the state of democracy in the world.
