“Veneto” (Venetian) is known as the language spoken by roughly a million people in the Veneto region, in Italy (language code: vec). But what happens when almost half of its speakers are found to live outside Veneto in various countries and different continents? What is the history of this language? What are its linguistic features when compared to other related languages, such as Italian, French, and English? What about its time-honoured literature? Join us on an interactive journey through a presentation and an exhibition, to discover a fascinating language with deep roots, a fruitful past, and an unknown future.
Alessandro Mocellin, 36, teaches Italian language and literature, history and geography in an Italian school. He is a Venetian language teacher, author, translator, and project manager in the cultural and educational sector. Alessandro holds a LLM in International Law, MA in Linguistics, and is undertaking an MA in History. He is the Director of the Academia de ła Bona Creansa [Academy of the Venetian Language], an accredited NGO for the UNESCO 2003 Convention.
This initiative is part of “La nostra lingua – Our language. Cusì parlemo – so we speak (Venetian). A Journey through History, Language, Culture: Exhibitions, Lessons, Workshops, Seminars held in Italian and in English by Prof. Alessandro Mocellin (Academia de ła Bona Creansa). Project by Federazione delle Associazioni Venete del Victoria, with the scientific partnership of Academia de ła Bona Creansa & the contribution of Regione del Veneto”.
