On the first Thursday of every month in addition to our regular Dinner Service, The Red and Dawn Room at Alkemē transforms into the Velvet Lantern Social, a night of eating, drinking, and connection. Modeled after nhậu in Vietnam, izakaya in Japan, and anju culture in Korea, it’s more than cocktails (though our bar will be glowing), it’s about community, ritual, and belonging. Think small plates, shared toasts, and the warmth of lantern light.
This debut gathering is especially meaningful. We’ll be filming footage for Chef Hue-Chan Karels’ upcoming documentary, Nhà Ta, which traces the Vietnamese diaspora through the lens of food, myth, and memory. By attending, you consent to your likeness potentially appearing in the film.
It’s also a celebratory send-off as Chef Hue-Chan returns to her motherland for her annual culinary escapade and to conclude the film. The film explores her past, but Alkemē is her present and future, and we’re thrilled to celebrate that with our community.
The Velvet Lantern is casual, boisterous, and sensory: everyone shares dishes and drinks, and finds belonging at the table. Celebrate, commiserate, or simply unwind after work. Let’s nhậu.
